In a typically off-the-cuff chat with Howard Stern on his self-titled Sirius XM radio show on Wednesday May 29, Couric dished on her very brief, PG-rated romantic encounters with Bob Saget and Jeff Probst -- and about the date that never was with Michael Jackson.
The contrast is so striking, so profound, that it’s devastating. Drew and diagnose someone I’ve only seen on a heavily edited TV show, but the episode came close to doing so, trying to establish Brandon as crazy, but mostly by having the other cast members describe him that way.
Brandon Hantz’s exit could have been due to a range of things, from emotional instability to pre-planned strategy (he’s been threatening this for weeks, and finally found a thin excuse to make good on his promises). Corrine called him “loco,” “unstable and unpredictable,” and Phillip repeated the word “unstable.” Andrea said “Brandon seemed sullen” and needs to “get right in his head.” And even Brandon told us, “I gotta keep myself under control,” as if he was going to explode at any minute.
We never let anybody on the show who can’t pass the psych test. He was also great in our interviews before the show began. Gordon Holmes reveals that pre-game, “Brandon was ready to flip out in an air-conditioned office.” If it was clear to a mild-mannered, nice guy of a journalist that Brandon was ready to freak out, that could not have gone unnoticed by producers.
We were actually very excited because he had a new approach to the game.” But no. Gordon observes, “What did they expect would happen under the stressful, luxury-deprived conditions of ‘Survivor’?
And they raised them with the kind of love that the kids, they see me, and he’s now remarried, his wife (Catriona Mc Ginn), they just see us as two more parents.” Probst said he considers himself a father, not just a step-father – and that the children call him dad. When we were together before we got married, they were playing with it,” Probst said.
Katie Couric is a veritable pop icon herself -- so it stands to reason that the veteran TV journalist and talk show host, 56, has been squired by a few famous men in her time.
' And I thought, this is so beyond creepy that Rabbi Shmuley is hitting on me. will you tell him how flattered I am and what a nice compliment that is?
I'm like ' Rabbi Shmuley, you have like nine kids, what's going on here? Michael [Jackson] said to me ' That's the kind of girl I would like to go out with . .' and I said, ' Rabbi Shmuley, that's very flattering but I am seeing someone . '" PHOTOS: 90s TV stars then and now Couric's husband Jay Monahan passed away in 1998 of colon cancer; Couric dated financier Brooks Perlin from 2006 to 2011.
It was clear we were being set up for something big by the editing, and not just Brandon’s irrational dumping of the rice and beans in order to give Phillip a reason to vote him off.
