Recently, Glendale (close to Pasadena), has got a nice Americana at Brand (americanaatbrand.com/dir…) square, featuring a lot of popular stores as well, over the pretty small square (it might occupy the area similar to Pasadena's Paseo and Old Town, but being squared it gives a different filling of being pretty small).
Mountain View is pretty far away and really village-like one (even comparing to So Cal suburbs :). The only spot one can visit is Stanford Shopping Center (looks pretty nice, but extremely expensive neighborhood) and Palo Alto's downtown (never been there, but heard a lot of nice feedback).
